The newborn hearing screening (onderzoek ) is intended for all newborn babies.
Child Healthcare workers perform the newborn hearing test on newborns between day 4 and day 7 after birth. In some Child Healthcare organisations in the provinces of Gelderland and Zuid-Holland, the hearing test is offered at child health centres because the midwives there perform the heel-prick test.
Child healthcare workers do not carry out hearing screening for children admitted to Neonatal Intensive Care Units as hearing screening is already carried out as part of the diagnostics in these units.
